Published By: National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) | Published Date: January, 01 , 2002

Several sporadic studies carried out in the developing countries, including India have been reporting a steady increase in the prevalence of diet related chronic diseases like obesity, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, etc. in urban as well as rural areas. However, no large-scale systematic studies have been carried out in India, especially among rural communities, to assess the prevalence of these disorders. Therefore the objective of this survey is to assess to assess the diet and nutritional status of the individuals, prevalence of obesity, hypertension, diabetes (only in Andhra Pradesh) among adults of ?20 years of age and anaemia among adult men and NPNL women in the rural communities.
