Cancún Agreement: Implications for Southeast Asia

Rajaratnam School of International Studies | Published Date: January, 01 , 2011The recent 2010 UN climate change conference in Cancún, Mexico, and the resulting Cancun Agreement, has shown that there is an increasing recognition of the need to protect the poor and vulnerable in developing countries from the impact of climate change. Looking at Southeast Asia from the perspective of it being a region which comprises developing economies, this NTS Alert explores the opportunities and challenges presented by the Cancún Agreement for the implementation of measures such as reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD), adaptation and transfer of technology in the region.
