Pension System Reforms for Pakistan: Current Situation and Future Prospects

The study deals with pension system reforms for the Pakistan economy and highlights the current situation and future prospects. The study presents an overview of the problems prevailing in current pay-as-you-go pension system, empirical evidence on pension system reforms, the strengths and weaknesses of the pension system of Pakistan and the major issues in pension system reforms. Furthermore, Serrano’s (1999) overlapping generation model is used to explore the effects of pension system reforms on capital accumulation, poverty, income distribution and fiscal position of government in Pakistan.
