Can Industry be the Key to Pro-poor Growth? An Exploratory Analysis for India

This study focuses on the manufacturing sector in the Indian context. Though both components – organized and unorganized – have been looked into, the emphasis is on the employment aspect of the organized manufacturing group so as to identify the sub-sectors which have the potentiality to grow and generate productive employment opportunities. Since the unorganized segment is often characterized by low productivity, generating meager earnings, the policy focus has to be on reducing the vulnerability of these units.
