Climate Risk and Food Security in Nepal: Analysis of Climate Impacts on Food Security and Livelihoods

Food security is a priority issue in Nepal. In spite of recent progress, Nepal is amongst the most at-risk countries in the world in terms of prevalence of stunting and wasting: 42 per cent of children under 5 are stunted and 31 per cent are underweight. The situation is more severe in some communities of the Far and Mid-Western regions, where stunting rates can reach above 70 per cent and wasting exceeds 20 per cent. The report not only highlights climate change and food security dialogue in Nepal, but also provide concrete inputs for adaptation planning to build resilience in the most vulnerable regions of the country
