Women’s Social Security and Protection in India

This report points out the existence of a number of Government-sponsored schemes for promoting the social welfare of women and for achieving other goals such as poverty amelioration, reduction in malnutrition and provision of healthcare and basic services, with a special focus on women. However, it was argued, these social security programmes still do not reach the most vulnerable sections of society, especially the marginalised women, because of various factors such as ineffective implementation, prevalence of corruption, and inefficiencies in the system. These systemic failures adversely impact the lives and work of women in both their productive and reproductive domains while underscoring the urgent need for efficiently implementing social security schemes for women in order to counter their vulnerability and marginalisation.
