Stateless in Law: Two Assessments

Published By: Mahanirban Calcutta Research Group, Kolkata | Published Date: March, 01 , 2014

This report comprises two assessments. The first is a theoretical analysis of the prevention and reduction of statelessness under international laws. By acceding to the ICCPR and the ICSCER conventions, India has already promised to protect a wide range of civil, political, social, cultural, and economic rights of the stateless. It must turn those international commitments into domestic law and policy. The second assessment examines the legal position of stateless persons in India with a view to providing ways for reducing it. Specific Indian legislations, case laws and discussions in the Parliament have been analyzed.
