This paper examines the issue of internet governance and analyzes the developments and challenges in reforming the current system. With state and non-state actors alike seeking to influence the way the internet is governed, Li Yan argues that China has an important role to play in this process. In particular, she argues that China should seek to redress the misconception of its “state-centric” approach to internet govenance, strive for greater international cooperation, and promote the further reform of internet governance institutions such as ICANN.
