Economic Crises and Migration: Learning From the Past and the Present

Following from the Global Economic Crisis of 2008, the paper comprises four substantive sections. The first offers the briefest of descriptions of the economic crisis. It is followed by a discussion of migration and crises in the nineteenth century.The third section looks briefly at twentieth century experience and the final al substantive section advances some hypotheses about what we might expect to see in the twenty-first century and asks whether the preliminary evidence is lending them any credence.
