Can we Avert the Next Dollar Crisis?

In recent months, the value of the dollar approached another historic low vis-à-vis other major currencies. This contrasts with the increased strength of the dollar during the deepest part of the global financial crisis between August 2008 and March 2009. Since then, the dollar has resumed the downward trend it had been on since 2002. As the United States has been running large external deficits, a weakening dollar could be seen as a normal adjustment to restore the imbalance.
