China’s “New Multilateralism” and the Rise of BRIC: A Realist Interpretation of a “Multipolar” World Order

This paper is an attempt to verify the debate whether the association with BRIC is instrumental to China’s global strategy and key to its various global strategic objectives. The main thrust of this paper is to examine the extent to which China benefits within the frame of BRIC. The paper argues that the club of BRIC permits China to work with mainstream developing countries to expand its clout and formulate new global rules without having to fulfill the requisites of developed countries.
