India gets its first transgender college principal
India has for the first time appointed a transgender as the principal of a college, a top education official said on Wednesday. "She has been teaching for 20 years and was chosen through the usual selection process," the chairman of the selection panel said.

AFSPA lifted in Tripura with immediate effect
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar announced that the Tripura government has lifted the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, (AFSPA) from the state with immediate effect . AFSPA has been in force in the state for the past 18 years.
